Lemon Grove

Lemon Grove was founded in 1869 by a sheep farmer named Robert Allison settled on land that would eventually become this town.  He began raising sheep and growing crops.  The town got its name in the early 1900s when many citrus crops were planted in the area.  While this is a small town, this Lemon Grove personal injury attorney finds this town’s history fascinating.

This city has an important part in the fight for equality in this country.  Lemon Grove attempted to build a separate school for children of Mexican heritage without telling the parents of the children.  When the children were turned away from the school in 1931, the parents of these children refused to send these children to the segregated school.  They filed a lawsuit with the help of a Mexican attorney, and with his help, these parents won the right to have their children attend school with the other children.  As a Lemon Grove personal injury attorney, it makes me proud to come from a tradition of attorneys helping those in need.

Lemon Grove was also the site of another famous incident involving Mexican mummies.  In 1966, two children went to Chihuahua, Mexico in search of mummies.  They found the mummy of a mother and her infant child and smuggled the mummies across the border.  Not knowing what to do with them when they got home, they stored the mummies in a garage.  They stayed in that garage for 14 years where they were found when the mother of one of the children was cleaning out the garage.  The mummies were then put on display, with the permission of the Mexican government.

Also notable in this town is “The World’s Biggest Lemon.”  It is a ten foot wide statue of a lemon with the words “Best Climate on Earth” written across its base.  This lemon sits on the orange line trolley next to a downtown bus stop.   It is a fixture in the town and is a popular place for tourists to take a picture.

For such a small town, there is a lot of interesting history here.  But, like anywhere, people can get injured in Lemon Grove from the negligence of others.  If this has happened to you, give a Lemon Grove personal injury attorney a call to discuss your case.  Consultations are free, and there is no fee unless you collect.  We’ll focus on your case while you work to get better.  Give us a call today.
